-Exacto
It’s about half a year I know Steve Pavlina. Nowadays he is fully time devoted to his personal development business. But from 1994 to 2006 he run the computer game company, Dexterity Software. Among other games he created the award-winning Dweep and its sequel Dweep Gold. Because I appreciate him in a big way and I know he is a really clever guy I decided to give a chance to his game. I have just finished the original version so here I am with a review of, for me, one of the best timeless puzzle games.

Dweep, one of the best puzzle games ever
Dweep is a puzzle game published in 1999 for windows machines only. The goal is very simple, guide the Dweep across the map to save the baby Dweeps. You will have to overcome the obstacles using the items you find along the way. It has a very simple and intuitive interface and beyond the childish and cute fashion is a truly hard brain game. Has been acknowledged with the Shareware Industry Award, the ZDNet Shareware Award, both in 2000 and in in 2001 it won the Shareware Industry Award for Best Action/Arcade Game (beating out Arkanoid for the honour)

An easy level just to learn the use of fans
The original game consists of 30 levels plus a 1 hidden bonus level. The continuation is merely a pack with more maps. Nevertheless much appreciated because once finished we’ll want more challenges to solve. In total sum 150 different levels. Which each can even have you thinking for hours. And already from the 15 level will begin to get into serious troubles.
The game has a nice gradual difficulty and new items and features will be introduced smoothly in the adventure in order to make the learning simpler. It starts with something very easy. We have to go through a path threatened by lasers. We are given some mirrors with 2 different directions and we’ll just have to divert the laser beams. Soon we’ll be able to use the lasers either spinning them or collecting new ones to destroy other objects or other lasers to clear the way. Indeed, Dweep is only a cuddly furry purple creature totally inoffensive. This is a non-violent game suitable for all publics and our most powerful weapon is our intelligence.

Poor poor Dweep
The maps are simply made with walls, and the objects lasers, mirrors, bombs and fans which can be as well picked up and used like items. The rest of our inventory may consists in wenches, torches, water buckets and hammers. Moreover we can find freeze or heat plates which obviously can cause our Dweep to freeze or float like a balloon. And this is all for a game which will catch us for days and days (weeks?, months?)
Don’t underestimate it. Like a really good puzzle game is as simple in use as hard in solving it. We’ll have to spend several afternoons to complete it and many times we’ll be really stuck without no clue how to continue. If you like these kind of games, Dweep is perfect for you. It’s challenging, but fun! When you get into the solution you will feel terribly great and smart ;) And the best is that you will want more and more. After finishing the 31 bonus level I felt both pleasure and sadness because the game was over. But there is the Dweep Gold with more levels! And there is even more, because Dweep Gold comes with a built-in level designer to create your own puzzles. Dweep Family keeps a good list of new different levels and you can send yours. Therefore this game has a veeeery long life.

How the heck solve this? Those bastard baby dweeps!
Steve Pavlina is a really focused and obstinate man. He decided to don’t dedicate more time to the video game industry and thusly now you can’t even buy the game. If you try with the official Dexterity page you will be redirected to his current main personal development page. And there is not information at all about the situation of the product. We’ll just recognize the symbol of the webpage as Dweep. As real info I only could find this question in his forums. I got the game in a p2p network and here I put the direct free download v1.4. Don’t think Steve disapprovals this (let me know) So if you want to pay his big effort to develop the game you just can donate the amount your consider appropriate.
Dweep and Dweep Gold is a very entertaining puzzle video game. With the extra levels in the Gold version you will be captured for a long period and expect to face up your mental skills at the same time you have fun. This is a timeless game and you can use it everyday to thrive your neural machine. For all the family :)
